\r\nMetalzone: So, Mike, welcome to Metalzone.gr . I’m gonna start with a question about the latest album. Since there has been some time since its release how do you feel about it now? Any stuff you’d change?
\r\n
\r\nMike: The only thing that I would go back and make different is the level on the vocals. I feel they are a bit low in the overall mix. Other than that I am extremely happy with the album, and I feel it is our best yet.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: You’ve just returned from a european tour. How did the european crowds respond to your latest material? Where there any highlights or unexpected events? Party San Open Air, Brutal Assault and Deathfeast Open Air are slowly becoming a legend in the minds of  sickos. Let alone the ultra cult Mountains of Death Open Air..
\r\n
\r\nMike: It was our second European tour and it was a lot better than the first. We have a great connection with European fans and always have a great time. The big fests we played like Party San and Brutal Assault were really amazing, the largest crowds we ever played for and got great responses. Mountains of Death is always awesome too. Highlights on the tour were definitely London and Moscow. Both amazing shows and incredible crowd response. London in particular was sweet since we had trouble getting through customs the first time around.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: You guys are also setting off for your first official US tour with Cattle Decapitation, after your 3 week tour with Dying Fetus and Cannibal Corpse. Are you feeling ready for it? it sure is gonna be a long one!\r\n

\r\n

\r\n
\r\n
\r\nMike: Yeah it will be a test but we are definitely ready. We have played so few places in our own country so we are definitely excited to play new cities. Also we couldn’t ask for better bands to go out on tour with. Should be amazing.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Do you think Devourment is picking up pace? Touring with DF and CC will bring your music to even larger crowds. Do you feel it’s recognition time after "serving" so much in the underground?
\r\n
\r\nMike: Yeah I think so. Touring in general will open you up to new people, but to do it with big bands that not only we enjoy, but are an influence on our music is more than we could ever ask for. We have been a hard working band for a long time, so a little recognition is nice. Either way, just being able to play our music live is all we want.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: On a fresher note, you signed with Relapse records! congrats on that one! Future seems "brighter" now? Any new songs for an album? If so, is there a planned release or something?
\r\n
\r\nMike: We are super excited to be on Relapse, and so far they have been great to us. We have a few songs written so far, not 100% complete but some great ideas written down. Our plan at the moment is to finish these US tours and get to work on the next album.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Devourment has always been about sheer brutality. Is there any chance of you guys pushing your sound forward by adding elements?
\r\n
\r\nMike: We have to advance to some degree, otherwise we will just be repeating ourselves. There is a fine line though, we don’t want to change our style, but we do want to make it better and smarter. Unleash the Carnivore took the band in some new directions, but still very much Devourment at its core. I can promise we will never stray away from what the band is about, and our goal will always to get heavier.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: How do you see the death metal scene nowadays? Any new bands you see stand out of the mass? There’s a whole bunch of kids trying to create music. Do you think the brutal death metal scene is overcrowded?
\r\n
\r\nMike: It has definitely changed but I have to say that its important for younger people to keep it going. It has gotten a surge of popularity in the last few years, which is good for the most part. But yeah there is a shit load of band these days. Computers have made it easy for anyone to record some songs and call themselves a band.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Now, a more serious question: what is the story of captain piss’ horsehead?? Inner joke or is the mob after you guys?
\r\n
\r\nMike: He found it at a shop in Tokyo and one day I was like, you need to wear that live. He did one day and it just stuck, and kind of became a gimmick for us. Its fun.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Back to music related themes. Are you planning on re-releasing all those split songs and demos sometime or you want to leave them as collectible "food"? Perhaps in a new mix?
\r\n
\r\nMike: Nah. We have re-recorded enough shit haha. At the moment we are planning all new songs, possibly a cover but no plans on re-recording anything.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: You have a couple of self released dvd’s. Are those still available?
\r\n
\r\nMike: We still have some of the DVD 2 and are pretty much sold out of the first one, but Comatose music is about to release DVD 2 with a bonus disc with 2 new complete shows. It will have a revamped cover and will be called DVD 2.5.
\r\n
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Does the audience in the states support the scene? Are enough cd’s and merch sold and do people show up at shows? downloading seems to be affecting even underground bands these days..
\r\n
\r\nMike: Yeah they do. We sold a good of amount of merch on the Cattle tour and to be honest, sold a lot more cds than the European crowd did, which surprised me. I just think death metal fans in general are collectors and tend to want to have the shirts or the actual cds. I personally still buy cds and probably always will.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Well, that’s all from me. I would like to thank you for your time and I surely hope to see you on stage in Greece someday soon. Beers on me. Last words are yours..
\r\n
\r\nMike: Thanks for the interview!! We will come to Greece some day, be ready!!!!!\r\n
