ERYN NON DAE - Franck
Metalzone.gr: How come you name the band Eryn Non Dae and whats the meaning of it?Some fans are calling you END and some others Eryn Non Dae. Whats the correct one? Or is it both?
\r\nFranck: Both are correct ! People who know us since the EP are still calling us END. Because it was the band name until last year, those who discovered us with Hydra Lernaïa of course call us Eryn Non Dae but no problem for calling us END. We wanted to keep the three letters so we were looking for something that sounds great and that could also sounds a bit mystical, finally these words could have something to deal with a noise coming from a forest or something like that in an elfic language but we’ve been told about that after choosing it while thinking it was just words! Funny isn’t’ it?
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: How can you describe your music to a person that have never heard you before?
\r\nFranck: Maybe like an ocean with big waves and sometimes moment of quiet in between, that’s it, big weird riffs with some quiet ambiences sometimes, what do you think about it?
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: Name few bands that have inspired you and have been a huge influence to your sound.
\r\nFranck: Metallica and Machine head for their song writing quality and richness of their music. Meshuggah and Neurosis of course for the hypnotic mystical weird thing!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: Which was your favorite concert that you played and which was your favorite as a fan?
\r\nFranck: Not easy to choose but to speak about intensity, we played a small gig two hours from our hometown in a lost place where people where just possessed, alienated by the music, just amazing ! They were hitting their heads against stage monitors, some had their eyes revolved, don’t know what they had took but seems very trippy! Hellfest was great to because we were expected and we wanted to make it good, I think we managed.
\r\n
\r\nAs a fan my first Metallica show in 1990 if I’m not mistaken, I’ve cried all my body’s tears from beginning to end.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: Please inform us about your last album, - Hydra Lernaia -. I heard that it has great success in many countries.
\r\nFranck: The record is selling good from your point of view and reviews all speaks as one in terms of quality, we are very pleased. We worked very hard on this one and the final European digipack is really beautiful I think.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: The title of the album is actually the name of a Greek Mythology beast. How come you gave to Eryn Non Dae ’s first child a Greek name?
\r\nFranck: It’s Mathieu’s idea, it comes out quite naturally as he needed a kind of red line to sum up these nine human feeling he was dealing with in the lyrics, maybe he wouldn’t call that a concept but he wanted to find a strong image to give the album a kind of cohesion so these nine human feeling are symbolised by the nine heads of this Mythological beast that grows stronger despite the will to cut them off.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: Please tell us a few things about the lyrical theme of the band. Who is writing the lyrics and what is the message that Eryn Non Dae usually want to pass to the audience?
\r\nFranck: Mathieu writes all the lyrics. He comes with it when a song is written and we give him our opinion, he is a hard working guy when it comes to write lyrics, he rarely stops. Sometimes I bring him some words or sentences picked up during my reading.
\r\n
\r\nOn the EP Math wanted to make listener think about universal themes like media role and power, the ecological matter on earth but for Hydra Lernaïa it was more personal, it’s about nostalgia of time passing by, the love feelings, duality and complexity of human relationship and human race decline...
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: What are your touring plans? Are you planning to visit Greece in the near future?
\r\nFranck: We have a few gigs until April but unfortunately no summer festival for the moment. Greece isn’t scheduled but we truly expect that it will in the future, if someone in your beautiful country listens to us!\r\n
\r\n \r\n

\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: I personally can’t wait to lidten your next album. Am I dreaming or are you already writing new stuff?
\r\nFranck: Your dreams are real! Thanks! We are about half of the composition process for the next record, we’re trying not to repeat ourselves and I think it will be a bit more melodic, we hope to enter the studio at the end of the year.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: Tell us a few things about the guitars and the gear you work with.
\r\nFranck: Since a few months I’m the happy owner of two marvellous Gibson Les Paul Baritone, amazing! Sounds more dynamic, less metal, I’ve just thrown away my old EMG’s pickups and that’s better!
\r\n
\r\nI was a bit hurt at the beginning because they really weight a dead ass!
\r\nAbout amplifier, Rivera Knucklehead with the midi floorboard that gives me a thousand possibilities and a Mesa Boogie cab With Celestion V30’s.
\r\nAbout effects: delay, flanger, pitchshifter and e bow
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: Who were your favorite guitarists of all time?
\r\nFranck: James Hetfield and Rob Flynn without hesitations!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone.gr: Send a message to all your fans worldwide through our webzine.
\r\nFranck:Thanks a lot to all of those who supports us and carry on buying albums! Thanks to you for letting us speak to Greek readers! Cheers
