POWERWOLF - BIBLE OF THE BEAST

POWERWOLF - BIBLE OF THE BEAST

Metal Is Religion and the chief priests are Powerwolf. The German/Romanian act returns not In Blood Red this time but just in time to preach the Bible Of The Beast, their newest full length album set to be released on April 27th through Metal Blade Records.

\r\nBrief BIO
\r\nFor those of you who haven’t heard of Powerwolf before, they were formed 2003, by "brothers" Charles and Matthew Greywolf, who had been playing together for years, and decided to create a band, Powerwolf. Soon the "brothers" added French drummer Stéfane Funèbre and German keyboardist Falk Maria Schlegel to the band, but couldn’t find a suitable singer to complete Powerwolf. In the meantime, the band started writing, and on holidays in Romania, Charles and Matthew met Attila Dorn. Dorn, who studied Classical Opera at the Music Academy of Bucharest, became the frontman of Powerwolf. With Dorn’s love of Romanian werewolf legends, the band created their debut album, Return in Bloodred, which used these same legends as the basis of a lot of the lyrics.
\r\n
\r\nPOWERWOLF’s 2007 release "Lupus dei" marked a milestone in the band’s biography. Not only that the five-piece around maestro Attila Dorn could easily surpass the high expectations after their out of the blue debut "Return in bloodred" (2005) - "Lupus dei" received rave reviews everywhere and not seldom was considered a soon-to-be classic. Metal hammer Germany even elected "Lupus dei" as one of the five most important metal albums of the year 2007.
\r\n
\r\nBible Of The Beast
is what I would call the perfect continuation of their previous releases. Powerwolf got a lot of guts in their music and even thought they use themes that could be cult and funny their attitude is so heavy there is no one who can doubt their quality as musicians and songwriters.
\r\n
\r\nThey began recording in November 2008, in Kohlekeller Studios near Frankfurt in Germany, while once again for the church organ parts they invaded a chapel near Thionville in Northern France. "Recording a real organ gives a much more haunting feeling to the music. No keyboard could ever transport that, and that’s why we don’t do it the easy way, but take the struggle to record a real organ in a church" says organist Falk Maria Schlegel. Moreover on "Bible of the beast" POWERWOLF realized a dream they kept since they started working with choirs on "Lupus dei".
\r\n
\r\nFor "Bible of the beast", none less than 25 classically educated singers of the Musikhochschule des Saarlandes (a national conservatory for classical music) sang choir arrangements on eight of the songs. Mixing duties were handled by the legendary Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman (In Flames, Hammerfall, Dimmu borgir). The effect is beyond any expectation one could have.
\r\n
\r\nIn Greece not many know of Powerwolf but who ever listens to a piece of their work instantly becomes a fan. The Wolves play pure heavy metal and their attitude is what heavy metal is all about. They got GUTS and it’s obvious throughout their work. Attila’s vocals are exquisite, Matthew Greywolf’s guitars are immense and the drumming of Stéfane Funèbre absolutely devastating reminding me at times the legendary drumming of Scott Travis in Painkiller. Two songs are already available in their myspace page and I have to say that it’s two of the catchier in the album – Raise Your Fist Evangelist and Werewolves Of Armenia. It is one of the few albums I’ve heard lately and enjoyed first to last track and if I had to choose songs that stand out I couldn’t. Just get your hand on this one and I am sure you’ll love it. The limited edition includes a DVD
